Dead Things

When I saw this plant, I was instantly inspired. I’m inspired because this plant has been dead for at least three years. It was hanging outside my window, dead when I moved in. So I guess it’s safe to say the plant was “dead on arrival.” I don’t know how long it was lifeless before I arrived, but I do know I’ve been in my home for three years, and it’s been gone the entire time. People fussed at me every visit, asking when I was going to get rid of this dreadful-looking plant, which clearly had no life signs. However, people can’t always see what’s growing on the inside.

Needless to say, I obviously never got around to it, and I’m glad I didn’t. After years of whatever the weather could bring and maybe a little abuse from a few other things, what was shriveled and brown is now green. The lesson in it all is that no matter how broken or lifeless or hopeless things may seem, God can breathe life into anything. You may think things are over for you. You may believe you’ve gone through too much; trust me when I say that God is enough. If he cared enough to bring a plant back to life, oh, the wonders he would do for us, too! Maybe it’s not the perfect conditions that God is waiting for,  maybe he’s just waiting on you!

Psalm 40: 1-3 I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry.
